Your private guides
The best safari is one placed in the hands of an excellent guide, and we are fortunate enough to have on our data base some the finest guides in Africa.

Guiding is an intimate and multi-skilled profession: not only is the land and the life it holds as familiar - to a guide - as our backyards are to us, but being able to convey this vast knowledge (in a way that is both warm and understandable) requires considerable skills, and we spend an inordinate amount of time making sure that every one of our clients is teamed up with just the right person.

One of the most respected guides on our portfolio is Richard Knocker. He works in northern Tanzania, and his walking safaris are considered the best in the business. Like all good guides, he creates for his clients a world that is raw, savage and as it is. Through detailed explanations and an unrelenting respect for the land and all it holds, he manages to reduce the distance between subject and object, so much so as to make his clients feel that they too belong here. The same is true of Festo Festus, also of Tanzania. Quite different, but still superb, Endale Teshome of Ethiopia is a renowned expert on early Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. A tour with him is to immerse oneself in a culture that is both ancient and very much of the land.

Unfortunately, given their expertise, the guides we favour tend to be booked up well in advance, so it is worth thinking about this when planning one's itinerary.
